Expert Technique Breakdown
Ensure all drywall screws are slightly dimpled below surface without tearing the paper. Use a utility knife to bevel any rough drywall edges around the electrical box.
Press self-adhesive mesh centered directly over the 4 perimeter joints and around the electrical receptacle box. Never overlap mesh corners to avoid unsightly lumps.
Force setting-type compound firmly through the mesh weave into the gap. Keep the blade at a 45-degree angle to leave a tight, flat bed.
Apply a second coat, feathering the outside edge 4 to 6 inches past the seam. Apply more pressure on the outer edge of the knife to blend seamlessly into the existing painted wall.
Lightly sand with 220-grit in circular motions. Wipe down dust with a damp microfiber cloth, apply drywall PVA primer, and your wall is ready for final paint!
